A Gibson SG Broken Headstock

Finish Restoration |
Broken headstock is glued and clamped.

Note the chips and scratches. They won't be there later.

The clamps have now been
removed from the headstock.
|
The glue is cleaned from the surface.

The front of the headstock is now cleaned and sanded.
|
The front is painted black, and the paint is removed from the inlays.
|
The front of the headstock is now covered with clear nitro.
|
The front of the headstock has now been sanded and polished.
|
Note the condition of the body that has to be restored later on.

Now the guitar is stripped and ready for the Bridgeport work.
|
The Gibson SG is now strapped to the Bridgeport.
|
|
The cavity for the pickup mod is started.
|
The pickguard to now cut to match the body cavities.
|
Now the finish restoration work is started to make it look new again.
|
|
All dings, chips, scratches, are treated with color matched paint.
|
 |
Any sign of the broken headstock is completely gone.
|
The original finish has now been restored, and the new look achieved.

It's been a while (6 months) since you did the work on my neck/headstock
+ the 3 pickup customization
I can happily say everything is still perfect and the guitar looks
better than new
Absolutely no cracking, paint chipping or any indication that it
was ever broken
Re: the pickups / pickguard + playability
The setup is fantastic and it plays great
I've gotten plenty of "Wow"s when folks have seen it
I prefer the 2 "holy Sh!t"s + one "jeeeezus" though
Again thanks for rescuing my favorite and giving me an even better
guitar
